The 4th of April 2007 marks the start of what could possibly be the most innovative musical internet marketing campaign to date. Through the official Dynasty Entertainment forums Crooked I released his first Hip-Hop Weekly, a freestyle to the beat from 50 Cent's Straight To The Bank hit single. Within days of its release Crooked I had taken over every hip-hop website online and had the ears of tens of thousand of listeners eager to hear his next weekly freestyle.
It wasn't long before industry figures began taking notice of this groundbreaking feat as Crooked I reached 10, and then 20 consecutive weeks, defying those who had said it wasn't possible, earning him props from heavyweights such as Just Blaze, Talib Kweli, Bishop Lamont, N.O.R.E, Ill Bill, Blue Sky Black Death and The Outlawz. It wasn't too long either before other rappers began emulating Crooked I, starting their own versions of Hip-Hop Weekly such as Young Dre's Monumental Monday, Freeway's Freestyle Friday.
The Hip-Hop Weekly series has spawned a number of successful mixtapes which have spread the Crooked I gospel to even more listeners. DJ September 7th has released two volumes of his Hip-Hop Weekly Mixtapes which have featured new remixes and unheard beats and the latest Hip-Hop Weeklies. In addition to the official September 7th mixtapes the Dynasty Online Community, in collaboration with BIGG Pene, DJ Pryme Tyme and Relentless Knockout have released two mixtapes Boss Blends Volume 1 and Boss Blends Volume 2 which are remixes of the Hip-Hop Weeklies with the original verses enabling listeners to compare Crooked I with Jay-Z, Kanye West, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, The Game, Eazy-E amongst others.
Shouting out fans on many of the Weeklies, and using beats suggested by fans, Crooked I has managed to connect with listeners who are too often an afterthought for many artists. This has helped increase his already loyal and dedicated fanbase who, in October 2007, bombarded the XXL website to vote for Crooked I as the MC who "has the best shot of taking over the game". Once Crooked I's fans and the Dynasty Online Community were made aware of the poll, there was only going to be one winner. The poll closed with Crooked I beating closest rivals Lupe Fiasco and Papoose by almost 10% each and leaving Saigon, Piles, Rich Boy, Lil Boosie, Joell Ortiz, Gorilla Zoe and Young Dro so far behind that their percentages combined would only just top Crooked I's. XXL followed up the poll by including Crooked I on the front cover of the November 2007 edition and in their "Top 10 MCs who have the best shot of taking over the game"
